Though one should live a hundred years not seeing the Truth Sublime, yet better, indeed, is a single day's lfe of one who sees the Truth Sublime.


最高の法を観ないで、たとえ百年生きるよりも、最高の法を観て一日生きる方が、よりすぐれている。

Though one should live a hundred years without seeing the Deathless State, yet better, indeed, is single day's life of one who sees the Deathless State.


不死の境地を観ないで、たとえ百年生きるよりも、不死の境地を観ながら生きる一日の方が、よりすぐれている。

Though one should live a hundred years without comprehending how all things rise and pass away, yet better, indeed, is a single day's life of one who comprehends how all things rise and pass away.


[五蘊の]生滅を観ないで、たとえ百年生きるよりも、[五蘊の]生滅を観ながら一日生きる方が、よりすぐれている。

Though one should live a hundred years idle and inactive, yet better, indeed, is a single day's life of one who makes an intense effort.


懈怠で不精進な人が、たとえ百年生きるよりも、確固たる[心で]精進に励む人が一日生きる方が、よりすぐれている。

Though one should live a hundred years without wisdom and control, yet better, indeed, is a single day's life of one who is wise and meditative.


智慧がない不寂静な人が、たとえ百年生きるよりも、智慧を有する禅定の人が一日生きる方が、よりすぐれている。

Though one should live a hundred years, immoral and uncontrolled, yet better, indeed, is a single day's life of one who is moral and meditative.


破戒と不寂静の人が、たとえ百年生きるよりも、持戒と禅定の人が一日生きる方が、よりすぐれている。

For one who is in the habit of constantly honouring and respecting the eiders, four blessings increase -age, beauty, bliss, and strength.


丁寧な挨拶が習慣となり、常に年長者を尊敬することによって、寿命、美貌、安楽、力という四つの法が増大する。

In this world whatever gift or alms a person seeking merit should offer for a year, all that is not worth a single quarter of the reverence towards the Upright which is excellent.


この世において福徳を望み、[火神に]犠牲や何ものかを一年献上しても、正行の人を丁寧に挨拶をする方が、よりすぐれている。たとえ[火神に一年供養を]しても、その全部は四分の一にもならない。

Though, for a century, a man should tend the (sacred) fire in the forest, yet, it, only for a moment, he should honour (a saint) who has perfected himself, -that honour is, indeed, better than a century of fire-sacrifice.


森の中で火神に百年奉仕するよりも、自ら修正せる、尊敬供養されるべき人に、寸時の間でも供養する方が、百年の祭祀よりも、よりすぐれている。

Though, month after month with a thousand, one should make an offering for a hundred years, yet, if, only for a moment, one should honour (a Saint) who has perfected himself, -that honour is, indeed, better than a century of sacrifice.


月々、千の祭司を百年おこなうよりも、自ら修習せる、尊敬供養されるべき人に、寸時の間でも供養する方が、百年の祭祀よりも、よりすぐれている。
