One whose knowledge and insight are deep, who is skilled in the right and wrong way, and who has attained the highest goal, him I call a Brahman.


深き智慧があり、賢く、道と非道に熟知して、最上義[＝涅槃]に到達せる彼を、私は婆羅門[＝阿羅漢]と言う。

One who realizes the destruction of his suffering here in this world, who has laid the burden aside, and who is emancipated, him I call a Brahman.


この世において自己の苦の尽滅を知り、[五蘊の]重荷をおろし、離縛せる彼を、私は婆羅門[＝阿羅漢]と言う。
