One who has cut the strap (of hatred), the thong(of craving), and the rope (of wrong views together with the latent defilements), who has lifted the bar that fastens the door (of ignorance), and who is enlightened, him I call a Brahman.


[瞋恚という]紐も、[愛執という]革紐も、[六十二邪見という]綱も、その付属物も共に切断して、[無明という]閂をはずして、[正しい真理を]覚知せる彼を、私は婆羅門[＝阿羅漢]と言う。
