It is good to have virtue until old age. It is good to have unshakeble confidence. It is good to attain wisdom. It is good to do no evil.


老いまで戒を[持つ]は楽しく、信仰の不動なるは楽しい。[真理を観る]智慧を得るは楽しく、いろいろな悪行をなさざるは楽しい。

In this world it is good to be dutiful to one's mother; it is also good to be dutiful to one's father. It is good to minister to samanas. It is also good to ministrer to the Noble Ones.


この世で母への孝行は楽しく、又父への孝行は楽しい。この世で出家者たちの世話をするは楽しく、又婆羅門たち[＝阿羅漢]の世話をするは楽しい。

It is good to have friends when the need arises. It is good to be content with whatever is available. It is good to have merit when life is at an end. It is good to be rid of all suffering (dukkha).


必要が生じた時、友[がいることは]は楽しく、身近にあるもので満足するは、楽しい。寿命が終わる時、[善行の]福徳は楽しく、一切の苦悩を捨断するは楽しい。
