Thus, there is the acquisition of demerit, and there is rebirth in the evil apaya realms. The enjoyment of a scared man with a scared woman is short-lived, and the king also metes out severe punishment. Therefore, a man should not commit sexual misconduct with another man's wife.


不徳を得、死去して悪趣[地に堕ちる]、恐れたる人[＝姦夫]と恐れたる人[＝姦婦]との楽は、少しばかりである。そして国王は重い罰を与える。それ故、男は他人の妻に親近するな！

Four misfortunes befall a man who is unmindful of right conduct and commits sexual misconduct with another man's wife: acquistition of demerit, disturbed sleep, reproach, and suffering in niraya.


放逸にして、他人の妻たちと交じり合う人は、四つの災難を受ける。不徳を得る、よりよき満足がない、第三に不満を、第四に地獄に堕ちる。

It is better for one to eat a red-hot lump of iron burning like a flame than to eat alms-food offered by the people, if one is without Sila and unrestrained in thought, word and deed.


破戒で無制御な比丘は、土地での[信者からの]乞食を受用するよりは、自ら熱せられた火焔の如き鉄球を飲み込む方が、よりよい。
