Make a firm support for yourself; hasten to strive hard; become wise. Having removed impurities and being free from moral defilements, you will no longer be subject to rebirth and decay.


汝自身の島を作れ！　急ぎ精進せよ、そして賢者であれ。[心の]垢を消除して、煩悩がなければ、汝は再び生老に近づくことはないであろう。

You are now of advanced age; you are going into the presence of the King of Death, and you cannot stop on the way; (yet) you have no provisions (for the journey).


汝は今や年老いたる人である、すでに死王の面前に進んでいる。汝にはその中間に[休息する]家もなく、路銀さえもない。

Make a firm support for yourself; hasten to strive hard; and become wise. Having removed impurities and being free from moral defilements, you shall enter the abode of the Ariyas (Suddhavasa Brahma realm).


汝自身の島を作れ！　急ぎ精進せよ、[そして]賢者となれ。[心の]垢を消除して、煩悩がなければ、汝は天界の聖なる地に行くであろう。

You are now like a withered leaf; the messengers of death are near you; you are about to set out on a long journey; yet you have no provisions (for the journey).


汝は、今や黄色に[枯れた]パラーサ樹の葉の如く、死王の使者たちが汝の目の前にあらわれている。汝は[長い旅の]出発点に立っているのに路銀さえもない。
