One should do what one teaches others to do; if one would train others, one should be well-controlled oneself. Difficult, indeed, is self-control.


他人を教訓する如く、自分自身もその如く実行しなければいけない。実に善く調御せられた[人こそ]、他人を指導することができる。自己を調御するとは、実に難しい。

One should first establish oneself in what is proper; then only should one instruct others. Thus the wise man will not be reproached.


最初に、自分自身に相応しい[方向に]落ち着かせるべきである。その次に、他人を教訓せよ。[そうすれば]賢者は[精神的に]疲れることはない。

If one knows that one is dear to oneself, one should protect oneself well. During any of the three watches (of life) the wise man should be on guard of (against evil).


もし、自分自身を愛する人のように知るならば、自分自身をよく守るべきである。賢者は、夜分の三つ[の中の]随一なものに不寝番すべきである。

They that have not led the holy life, they that have not obtained wealth in time of youth, lie like arrows that have lost momentum, bewailing the times that are past.


青春[時代]に梵行をしなかった[老い]人、あるいは財産を得る努力をしなかった[老い]人は、弓から放たれ[落ちる矢]の如く、昔の不精進に嘆きながら臥せる。

They that have not led the holy life, they that have not obtained wealth in the time of youth, perish like worn-out herons in a pond without fish.


青春[時代]に梵行をしなかった[老い]人、あるいは財産を得る努力をしなかった[老い]人は、魚が滅された沼にいる老いた白鷺の如く、悩んでいる。

O house-builder, you are seen! You will not build this house again. For your rafters are broken and your ridgepole shattered. My mind has reached the Unconditioned (i.e., Nibbana): I have attained the destruction of caving(Arahatta Phala).

家を作る者よ、観い出されたり！　[汝は]再び家を作ることはない。[汝の]家の一切の垂木は破壊され、屋根も崩壊された。[私の]心は離行作[＝涅槃]に到達し、諸々の渇愛を尽滅する[阿羅漢の智慧]を証得した。

Through many a birth in samsara have I wandered in vain, seeking the builder of this house (of life). Repeated birth is indeed suffering!


[肉体という]家を作る者を探し求めて見い出せず、[私は]多くの生死輪廻に流転してきた。再三再四[幾度も]生まれてくることは、『苦』である。

The man of little learning grows old like a bull: he grows only in bulk, but his wisdom does not grow.


[法を]聞くことが少ない人は、雄牛の如く、[生長して]老いていく。その肉は増大するが、彼の智慧は増大することはない。

Even gorgeous royal chariots wear out, and indeed this body too wears out. But the Dhamma of the Virtuous does not age; thus, indeed, say the Virtuous among themselves.


実に、種々の王の車は老朽化している。又、[人の]身体も老いに近づく。[しかし]正法は老いに近づくことはなく、実に善き人々の[間に]正しく説かれる。

The body is a city built of bones, plastered with flesh and blood, containing within decay and death, pride and jealousy.


骨で作られた[身体という]城は、肉と血とで塗り固められている。その場所は『老』と『死』と『慢心』と『覆』に蔽われている。

Like gourds thrown away in autumn are these gray-hued bones: what delight can there be in seeing them (Kapotakani atthini)?


投げ捨てられた秋の瓢箪のような、灰白色した骸骨を見て誰が楽しいだろうか？

現在の住居と、通っているスポーツクラブを来月末で解約する手続きが完了。
来月になったら、インターネット回線と光テレビの解約手続きをスピーディーに実施し、
工事日を早目に明確化。
しかし、最低利用期間までの残余期間相当分の料金も支払う必要があるのが痛い。
開通まで時間がかかった分、実際に利用できたのは3ヶ月程度…。
